Difficult day/night at work. Very busy this afternoon, and at five, when I usually go home, it was still so busy that I had to stick around. Made a delivery tonight to a worker at a paper-goods factory on 301. In fact, I not only delivered the food, I took his order when he called it in, too. I had a delivery tonight, just before sundown, to an apartment complex on Ruffin Road. I’ve been there before. It’s my understanding that this particular place had until recently been blacklisted by us; I guess we had trouble of some kind with them last year, but I don’t know the story. Among my deliveries was one to a waitress on her day off. Her total came to $36.32. She gave me exact change, right down to the penny. Then she looked at what was left in her billfold and said, without apparent irony, “I sure hope I make decent tips tomorrow.”
